Why turn-based RPGs still feel right on a phone

Real-time games fight against the phone. You get interrupted, the bus lurches, someone texts you. Turn-based combat shrugs all that off — the battle waits patiently until you're ready.

Emberlight Saga reminded me how well this fits. Its stance-switching system is genuinely tactical, but because nothing moves until I decide, I can play it one-handed while distracted and still make smart choices.

The other half is story pacing. A good pocket RPG doles out narrative in chunks you can absorb between stops. Emberlight's camp conversations are perfect for this — small, self-contained, easy to dip into.

If you've drifted away from RPGs because you never have a free hour, the mobile turn-based crowd is worth another look. They're built for the fragmented way we actually play.
